Experimental Artist Statement

Project Proposal Artist Name: N. Rina Zakaria-Gholson Artist Statement: A short horror scene that tells the experience of a trapped victim. Title of Piece: Trapped Concept: Horror/Dark Psychology/Fantasy Project Description: A plastic room that is equipped with five 13” televisions. The television will be placed on a table or tables to resemble human body parts on a surgical table. The plastic wall will invade personal space of the viewers, creating a sense of alertness to whatever roams behind the plastic wall. The televisions will show a woman lie on the floor and surrounded by mirrors. The feeling of claustrophobic will be emphasized by the small space in the room, sound and the looping movies. Project History: How would one act when one realizes he/she is trapped? Panic would take over and mix feelings of death, claustrophobic, blurry visions; etc will emerge as the person loses control of his/her reality. Then fear comes next as it taunts its victim to do irrational things that may end the person’s life. Equipment: 1. five 13” televisions 2. Chair 5. 2 Extension cords 6.
