Traditional (Dark Room) Photography using a basic 35 mm camera

My Pictures takes view on daily society in Detroit. In my project, Detroiters are busy with daily activities. Despite the bad economy and plummeting lifestyle in the Detroit society, Detroiters work hard trying to maintain their life as normal as possible. The pictures of the people in my project symbolize the reality we are facing, but also share the beauty of Detroit.

One of the people I took picture was busy looking for bottles in each trash bin; he did not even care if people glare at him. This is a sight that has become more common and is now a part of daily life in Detroit.

The next picture shows a man trying to read the newspaper headlines through the glass rather than buy it showing that he is part of the community that care about what happens in the news but cannot afford to buy the paper. To me, this is a symbolic of individual hope.

The last picture shows a man and woman talking despite their surroundings and personal situation. People can still be civil and polite to one another. Together, these pictures illustrate the undying sense of community present in the streets of Detroit. Having endured the worst economic hardship that any city can be subjected to, Detroit is still fighting. And as long as Detroit keeps fighting, the city will survive.
